Picture this: A client recently had their email account hacked. The hackers used it to send out fake emails, trying to trick other people into giving up their passwords. Luckily, the client’s contacts noticed something was wrong and called to check. Because so many people called, it took nearly 30 minutes for the client to reach out to me.

Even though the client had extra security measures in place, like Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA), it wasn’t enough to stop the hackers completely. Our first step was to log everyone out and change passwords. We then checked for any other issues and found that only one account was affected.
One sneaky thing the hackers did was set up an email rule that moved all incoming emails to the Archive folder and marked them as read. This meant that any replies like “I think you’ve been hacked” would be missed, making it harder to notice the problem.
